“Team OSAKA”, is Dream Team established
to participate in RoboCup Japan Open 2004 Osaka and is categorized
as a company group organized by Osaka
University (Ishiguro Laboratory), Systec
Akazawa, Vstone
and Robo
Garage. Because of its high level of technology along with
excellent novelty and originality, this company group had been
elected to Dream Team out of fourteen business organizations,
three universities and one NPO applicants, and then spent fifteen
million yen countertargeting to develop and produce robots through
collaboration between industry, educational institutions and the
administration. The result is this autonomous bipedal walking humanoid
soccer contest robot, VisiON, completed with
getting expectation and attention.
The exterior design of ”VisiON”, Dream Team’s
(Team Osaka) robot, was made by Tomotaka Takahashi, a robot creator.
Having gone through a new step, from controlled type robots that
merely follow human’s orders to autonomous type robots,
this robot was now in the final stage for Robo Cup.Unlike Controlled
type robots, autonomous robots require advanced information processing
where they make an own decision for its movement based on information
provided by a censor. Its actions seem to be less active than before
but its percentage completion is steadily making a leap.VisiON
is expected to play well in RoboCup Japan Osaka 2004 and in the
next year’s RoboCup World Cup in Osaka; therefore, we would
like to see VisiON’s further success.

[[ VisiON ]] the origin of the name and process of the
birth
“VisiON” is coinage with the origin in English word “Vision”.Vision
means sight, seeing, future and imagination.Mr. Takuro Imagawa in
Osaka university, one of the development members of robot development
named VisiON in the hope that one will imagine the future of autonomous
bipedal walking robots with this leading edge robot whose omnidirectional
sensor ensures 360-degree all round visibility instantaneously.Inherited
the DNA of “OmniHead”, a robot with distinguished athletic
ability and “neon”, a robot with elegant and pretty form,
equipped with omnidirectional vision and advanced brain (CPU board),
VisiOn was born, carrying Osaka’s dream.
